In response to Ash-Lee Woodard Henderson’s words, “Hope is a discipline of faith,” this painting imagines hope on a scale larger than the individual.
The Earth continues to shift, adapt and remake itself. Dark passages run alongside luminous golds and pale blues. The world is not untouched by crisis. It carries rupture within it yet continues to move toward another dawn.
The trees stand as witnesses to this persistence. Life will endure in forms that we cannot predict and the Earth will continue beyond the limits of our own certainty. Hope is not the belief that everything will remain as it is. It is faith in life’s capacity to transform and the discipline required to meet that transformation that will determine our place in the world.
